They’re Probably Not Real
And there will be more of them
My first post on Medium was from November 2014 when Amazon launched the Echo. You can check it out here. Less than two years later, I started to post often on Medium, nearly daily for a long stretch of time. As a result, there’s a long trail to show that I’m probably a real person, including a link to a LinkedIn page with followers.
There’s wonderful content on Medium and I’ve been both entertained and enlightened from writings. However, I’ve seen a lot of “professional content creation”. It seems like relationship pages are filled with these, as are some professional pages.
However, the writers are not real or at least they’re using pseudonyms. The only information on them is their Medium bio page and they don’t have many followers. They’re writing to get paid for their content.
There’s nothing inherently wrong with this but it does color any advice. My worry is that very soon, this content won’t be generated by humans and will flood Medium with kind-of interesting advice that won’t make sense. Profiles that haven’t been verified or are aliasing will be nearly indistinguishable from those with humans behind them.
It will likely happen slowly but will scale quickly, overwhelming Medium. The Time to prepare for this is now.
