I’m excited to try out Whisper Mode on the Echo. I enabled it today and it seems to work as described. In April 2017, I discussed Whispering Far Field.

This development indicates a big move forward with Alexa and AI assistants in general. One of the low hanging fruit has been the ability to match the users speak and respond accordingly. Amazon has achieved that, if at least in an early iteration, with Whisper Mode.

The first few interactions with it create a very interesting feeling — it makes Alexa seem much more relatable. I’m curious to see the limits of this but at same time, it’s actually a huge leap in the right direction of AI-user interaction.

I’ll be trying this out more and coming back with some thoughts.
