We did exactly that several years ago — even before the Echo had come out, we had started to move away from creating our own hardware product to helping other companies voice-enable their own hardware. I often say that all we needed was a mere billion dollar investment (oh, and an e-commerce platform) for the Ubi to have become the Echo. My takeaway — the hardware should help drive a software play.
