Google Duplex finally started to roll out something new, nearly two years after it’s groundbreaking demo at Google I/O. The first iteration will wait on hold for you and alert you when the call is picked up by a live agent.

This is low hanging fruit. The concept has been around for at least five years in different apps and much longer as other services but it takes a Google to help push it to use en masse.

Google is trying to glue together old tech with AI assistants. Eventually, the idea on hold is an anachronism and it many not require a business to implement any changes to their own systems to deal with call volumes.
