There was an adage when I was running a startup that being early doesn’t always mean winning. Sometimes, you being early just allows competitors to learn from your mistakes.

Google hasn’t always been the first to launch new services and devices and when it did… Google Glass. Some other fetes were well timed, like huge amounts of email storage that were unheard of when Gmail was launched.

Google is good at pushing pioneer technologies further. It can scale, it can be more accurate, it can be faster. It also has access to enormous repos of personal data that can be part of a personalized model that OpenAI can’t match.

That’s why we shouldn’t count Google out of the future AI game.
