I’m ecstatic to see projects like Respeaker (just launched on Kickstarter here). These types of projects aim to make it easier to build voice interaction into everyday devices. The project is for a far field voice kit that can connect to services like Alexa or IBM.

It’s not the product itself but its existence that shows the soon-to-come democratization of voice hardware. It’s going to be easier and faster for companies to add voice and the reasons to do so are going to be more compelling: easier user interaction with the product, more data on how users interact with the product after shipping, new services and revenue streams that can be offered.

The next frontier will likely be various voice services on the same device and how to get them to play with each other.
