The Irony…
Sora can’t verify that I’m human. At least the service they put in place to protect their site from DOS attacks can’t.
As long as I’m connected to a VPN, Cloudfare keeps on checking whether I’m human. It’ll do this until I either decide to give up or I disable my VPN.
Here, we see the battlefield of privacy vs. usability. By design or by neglect, companies create barriers to accessing services to those preserving their privacy. As the lyrics go to the song Signs by the Five Man Electric Band go:
You can’t even watch, no you can’t eat. You ain’t supposed to be here.
Can’t you read the sign?
The irony here is blocking a real human from accessing a site where people can use generative AI to create unreal humans is a bit ironic, don’t you think?
Blocking access and Captcha type tests are going to be the blunt instruments to protect sites from abuse of virtual agents. However, we’re going to 1) catch and frustrate many legitimate users and 2) block virtual bots who might be better users of a site than humans.
Better to carefully rate limit than to block.
