The idea of a voice-based intercom has finally come to the Echos. Being able to send quick messages asynchronously is a big plus. Somethimes you don’t want to engage in a full live conversation but just want to send a message to someone. “Come down for dinner” or “I’m heading out now”.
We saw the value of this with the Ubi’s ability to have push notifications and announcements. You could (and still can) create rules to send notifications. With the UbiCC app, there was even the ability to send voice messages to other devices. Here’s one comment from CJ on our Kickstarter a few years back:
Far field issues aside, we had seen this type of application proliferate when people had multiple Ubis. Not being able to immediately answer was actually a feature.
One of the great selling features of Alexa Fund-recipient Nucleus is its intercom capabilities, especially in reducing the barrier to starting a video conference.
Taking the idea of the intercom to the extreme, what if the ability to find and communicate with you could follow you to any Alexa-enabled device? Would that be too creepy? Would be be open to accepting it if it reduced our dependancy on a handheld device?
