Passports, driving licenses, cash — all physical items that will get you into trouble if you misplace them. That can be extended to your cellphone, house keys, or retainer. However, the dependency on the physical is slowly evaporating.

Fast forward 10 years and we may no longer be relying on many of these items. Driving licenses and passports can be your biometrics. Cash will be coins. Cellphones are just endpoints (though more technology is being pushed to the “edge”). Keys — keyless doors. Retainers? Hmm… maybe nanobots?

The less we rely on the physical the more we can focus on experience and be less dependant on things.
