A huge wave of content is heading towards us. We’re already starting to see it with spammy content and AI generated articles. Now, images are being generated at an enormous place and changing the landscape of stock images. By the end of 2024, we’re likely to see huge amounts of AI generated content being uploaded to YouTube, TikTok, or other video content sites.

And it won’t end.

First, the content will be silly. Then it will be bad. Then people will get annoyed. Then it will get indistinguishable from regular content and outnumber it. Then it will get good.

I get the writers’ strike and the concern now about the technology. As an exponential technology, we won’t actually see the effects of this technology until it hits us in the face. However, we can’t really hold it back. What might be a better approach is to pool the resources to build the equivalent of a canals and flood plains to direct the technology and make the fruits of it accrue to more people rather than the few.

The irony of the strike action is that a lack of traditionally produced content is going to push more people to newly created content that ditches the traditional faster. However, those with the talent will be able to now go from word smithing content to becoming script doctors and prompt magicians. There is still much to contribute.
