Still A Timer
My Google Home Mini is still mostly a timer, but that doesn’t mean it’s not hugely important.
Despite being bullish on voice for nearly a decade, I still use voice in a limited way. Mostly for weather, music, and timers. Occasionally, I’ll use it for other intents but those three follow the 80/20 rule for me.
Frequency of usage and importance are two different things. Every time I use voice during a drive vs. touching my phone, it’s much more important than asking for music when I’m home.
When I use voice dictation in another language, it’s much more useful than asking for the weather.
So, even though the “killer apps” for voice first hardware are limited, it doesn’t mean that they aren’t incredibly important or that voice shouldn’t be accessible everywhere.
