Soda Water

I enjoy soda water a lot. For few reasons:

  • It’s usually served cold
  • It’s fizzy and has a good mouthfeel
  • It’s filling
  • The carbonation keeps it “fresh” longer
  • It alters the taste of water

When I was a student in university and very frugal, I’d usually take for the day a few protein bars and a 2L bottle of carbonated water that I’d buy from the supermarket for $0.49 CAD.

Now, I own a SodaStream and my kids also enjoy soda on its own. I’m still an aficionado of soda and there is a lot of room in the industry for innovation.

  • Tankless soda makers (capturing carbon from the atmosphere)
  • Branded carbonation levels (San Benedetto Light vs Topo Chico)
  • Custom mineralization (add minerals to distilled water to create a Perrier vs a Gerolsteiner)
  • Carbon fiber bottles and a reusable can experience (e.g. La Croix)

Hopefully, with a surge in popularity of at-home soda making, we’ll see more innovation.
