Small Smart Lights

One of the pains for moving to a new place is having to setup your smart home again. WiFi, computers, printers, cable boxes, etc. are the easy part. Then, it’s finding where to place the hubs. Then it’s thinking about installing all the lightbulbs again.

One thing that I didn’t notice before is how many small lights are on ornamental fixtures like chandeliers. There might be 10 small lights, up to 30 on some more ornate ones. And the light bulb sizes aren’t standard. If you want to convert these into smart fixtures, it might cost hundreds of dollars per fixture just for dimming capability.

Costs of smart specialty light bulbs are coming down but we’re probably another 5 years off from them being the same price as regular lights today. At that point, we might see all lights sold with these bulbs included.
