Small and Aggravating

Two things got my goat today.

First, a menu on Waze during navigation that can never be hidden. I’m on route to a destination I’ve selected, why do I need to see suggestions for another destination? I can’t dismiss or hide these suggestions and they obscure important information like ETA.

Second, a new chat message notification was obscured on a service page when the browser window wasn’t fully expanded. I had been waiting for a response and the little read dot on the chat bubble was the only notification that there was one and it was hidden. It was a really important message and it meant a delay by several hours as a result.

Fixing these issues may take a long time, if they’re ever resolved. Why?

Someone needs to notice them, report them, someone needs to triage this information, get the right person involve, understand the scope of work, prioritize it, and then finally develop and release it. Along the way, it might get lost amongst a million distractions.

This is the promise of new generative AI tools. They can seek out problems and potentially come up with new fixes.
