For the first time in a long time (and with some new tools), I build a simple game Skill for Alexa. While I’ve been a critic of different Skills and Actions for years, being an implementer is a different story (as a company, UCIC has worked on a few Skills but mostly as developer tools).

The Skill I made was personal with a targeted audience of one. It was a game that the audience could when I was away traveling. Initial reception was fantastic.

I attempted to apply some of the principals I had spoken about in the past:

  • Using voiceovers rather than relying on Alexa’s TTS voice
  • Making the Skill highly personal
  • Applying earcons and sounds to make it more exciting
  • Making it engaging with the user

More work will need to be done to also make it multimodal. Let’s see where this goes…
