Sitting In Silence

While my laptop goes to sleep, my many always on IoT devices remain awake. Even if they go into low power mode, they’re still running background processes or listening for wake up words.

I’m OK with this. The phantom power consumed is peanuts compared to a minute of clothes dryer or air conditioning use.

But I’d hope I could get some benefit of having spare processing power in my home. What if I could use this as some distributed edge processing on behalf of AWS and get some cut of the costs? Maybe it could be mining Libra on Facebook Portal or some type of Amazon or Google credits on their devices?

This isn’t a new concept by any means but with so many more powerful devices being in the home and being on again (many shut off when people when from PCs to laptops), why not at least get a bit of additional benefit?
