Robots Robots Everywhere

By no means was my experience at CES an accurate sampling of the show floor. I sought out voice devices and experiences and for the short time I was on the floor, I spent it where the sampling of companies was not representative.

However, given that this was the same approach I’ve taken in years past, it did seem that this year there were more robots. Not just any, but voice interactive ones and for the first time in number — Alexa Voice Service enabled ones.

CES, with it’s 180,000+ attendees roaming the halls, was the first major experience of a number of devices, like the robot seal. However, we’re also seeing growth of more humanoid size robots.

However, these robots still don’t seem to be more practical than glorified Roombas with tablets. Many of these devices had made an initial appearance seven months ago at CES Asia:

And then of course, there was the uniquely named Pudding.

These robots are still in the kookie stage but with AVS and other services coming onboard, they’re becoming more useful.
