Research is a Process

It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of Dr. Károly Zsolnai-Fehér’s YouTube channel, Two Minute Papers. He showcases some of the most exciting AI tools and papers every week on his channel. You can check it out here.

In it, he quotes his own law that “research is a process. Don’t look at the current paper but always look two papers down.” In many cases recently, it’s only one paper away from us seeing dramatic improvements in things like video generation or patching of images to see 360 degree walk arounds.

The same idea can be applied to technology advancement in general. If you look two versions down, the differences can be startling. As an example, you might think “oh cool, the new iPhone has satellite location” but look two versions down at what might be possible. Project Kuiper and Starlink are going to be online and it’s likely we’ll have global satellite coverage from regular devices.

As Two Minute Papers would say… what a time to be alive!
