It was a bit of a let down that there was no major HomePod news this week. It seems like Apple’s new strategy is to announce things long in advance of availability, like the iPhone X.

However, the lack of news could also indicate Apple’s approach to the HomePod… that it’s a speaker for Apple Music, not some larger play. For Apple, the flagship product is the iPhone and that’s the only product that will get it’s own show. The HomePod… an update on it would be buried in WWDC or other events.

Despite being announced awhile back, the HomePod has yet to hit FCC. Their website still shows in fine print “This device has not been authorized as required by the rules of the Federal Communications Commission. This device is not, and may not be, offered for sale or lease, or sold or leased, until authorization is obtained.” Of course, this could be just time closer to an actual release.

It would make sense if they were to release the HomePod before Thanksgiving but of course, Apple plays by its own rules.
