I’d been hoping by now that we’d have more powerful, longer distance Qi-type power sources. Several years ago, I remember seeing the Qi powered devices at CES. There were many companies popping up, including furniture makers looking to add this capability into pieces. However, it seems we’re still very early.

A year back, Wi Charge had released a device capability of 30 ft wireless charging with a large adapter. However, it hasn’t been widely reviewed. Larger manufacturers having chimed in.

There are likely two phases. We may get lower power long distance charging that provides slow charging alongside near field, contact devices that can juice up devices faster. The next phase would be the elimination of this near field requirement.

It’s probably 5 more years until a major hardware player has anything that is home wide but it will likely change how we design our homes.
