My First Duplex Call

About two weeks ago, I received a call from Duplex. It was confirming the time when an office was open. It announced itself but it sounded very realistic, almost like someone just saying they were an automated attendant. It had hums and haws and nervous pauses. It was weird.

If it didn’t announce that it was calling from Google and automated, I would have very likely confused it with a live and awkward person. It asked a simple question around opening hours and that was it. Easy peasy. It was a perfected script and we both benefited from it.

Duplex has the power to scale verification tasks very quickly. I can imagine this being turned into a service for other businesses to reach out to others nearby who might be interested in a product or service AND who have consented to them being contact by it.

Duplex will get even better. The spooky part is thinking about its capability in 5 years.
