More Apps Like Mine
Yesterday, my friend Sunny Ray introduced me to Mine. It basically automates GDPR or equivalent requests from every company that you’ve provided data, through mining your email messages. While it might not be AI based yet, this type of technology is what we’re going to need to counter the incredibly powerful influence that AI-based systems are going to have on us over the coming decade.
We will need our own set of fully-owned tools to fight against the ones that are trying to move us down a funnel or rob us of our attention. At the very least, we should have some visibility into what the technologies that companies are employing are trying to do.
We are only 3–5 years away from new technologies emerging that will be highly manipulative. At scale, they will be able to influence us into purchasing things or watching videos or making political choices that on sober reflection would not be in our best interests.
We need more protection. Laws move slowly but the technology to fight can move faster against this threat.
