Mid-Roll and AI Transparency

It’s interesting to see how advertising evolves to continue to be effective.

In July, Google started to show ads halfway through video spots. I’m sure this move will drive customers to watch more ads or to sign up for YouTube premium.

However, there was something else interesting happening. The ads seemed to be timed to occur right before something compelling was to happen in the program.

This is an interesting observation in terms of AI implementations. If AI is being used to time the showing of ads, I’d like to know. There should be some transparency in telling me this. If it’s being timed to optimize for attention of the ad, that’s OK. Just tell me, in plain English.

Don’t let me think about it and then post my assumptions on a blog! Transparency builds trust and credibility.
