It’s a bit curious to see the mash up of a new Harman Kardon speaker integrated with Cortana. What’s strange is that last month, Samsung acquired HARMAN, whose subsidiary is Harman Kardon. Samsung also acquired Viv, an AI/speech assistant company.

It would seem that Cortona would be a competitor to both Viv and other assistants that Samsung could be working on. In many other ways, Microsoft and Samsung are competitors in consumer electronics, especially with Samsung’s creation of Gear.

Either this announcement means that Harman Kardon is still acting with autonomy from Samsung or it signals an interesting cooperation between Samsung and Microsoft. The consipracy theorist in me wants to believe the latter as it could lead to a more powerful voice API.
