Make a Mural
I sat down a few days ago with my mother and we played around with Midjourney. It didn’t go well.
She had a concept for a mural and we tried to ask Midjourney to come up with some renderings. It didn’t come close. Now, this doesn’t mean that Midjourney isn’t capable of drawing what she wanted, but we weren’t able to vocalize what we were looking for in a way that could be properly interpreted by the tool into what we wanted.
However, this is a common problem, even amongst us humans. We asked someone to draw something but it doesn’t come out the way we envisioned. We ask to make the rocket pointy or for some other concepts and we just can’t get the words out.
On a recent episode of Radio Lab that I wrote about — Cataclysm Sentence— novelist Nicholas Baker added one poignant part to his sentence… “we know more than we can say.” The next AI technology may be in unlocking this knowledge.
