Local and Limited

There’s a market for local or edge voice. It has to do with crafting bespoke give experiences. Some of these are harder to pull off than others. However, there are still opportunities on the market. Namely:

  1. Timers and Alarms
  2. Music
  3. Weather

What if it’s possible to be a one way Internet device? Such as weather or limited information.

“Mr. Buddy, how’s the weather?”

Timers and alarms can be placed in the kitchen or bedroom with no need for a timer. They can perform today with local voice interaction at a level orders of magnitude better than 10 years ago.

“Alarmy, set a reminder for 5 minutes”

Then, there’s the simple device that is Internet connected but only sends requests for music and doesn’t stream voice.

“Mr. Music, play the Beatles.”

There’s still room for local voice interaction and bespoke experiences outside of Alexa, Google, and Siri.
