Talk about the awkward tween years — The Verge posted about cringe worthy AI rap singing about AI stuff. Yeah… not something it would want anyone to really see.
While there are some examples of amazing life like speech synthesis coming to the forefront with Tacotron 2 and the likes, clearly the video that the Replika posted did not use these. Instead, it used previous generations that sound robotic and flat. Sure, the images look like the latest first person shooter, but the sound is awful.
We still have some ways to go before we’re able to have indiscernible speech transcription. There will then be a new frontier to tackle.
