Human Authenticity

As we encounter more articles, images, and videos created near-instantaneously by AI, we’ll be asking us if something being presented to us was created authentically by a human. This will have many layers to it.

Was a human involved in generating the item? Did a human write the prompt? Did a human do part of the work and AI cleaned it up? Was it written only with spellcheck? Was it written on parchment with charcoal? Red dirt on a cave wall?

We use technology to facilitate creation and at some point, it seems like the voice of the work no longer belongs to the author. I think we’re still looking to “hear” the voice of the author of a piece of work. If it still sounds like them, then it’s “authentic”.

Oliver Garden might not be “authentic” Italian food, but it’s still “authentic” food — authentically Olive Garden.
