I’ve been critical of Google in the past for its approach to developers of Actions, especially in comparison to Amazon’s efforts towards bringing in developers to develop Alexa Skills. It feels like there’s an attitude of Not Invented Here that Google needs to overcome to attract more outside developers.

That said, it looks like they are starting to slowly come around to helping developers overcome obstacles to building Actions. Earlier this month, they announced new tools for helping developers prototype apps for Actions, announced developer road trips, and shared videos.

The best tool was a no-code spreadsheet for creating simple quiz-like Actions. I love this idea! This is the type of “gateway drug” to lure in developers to building on your platform. Make it stupid simple.

Kudos to Google for this new tool. Let’s hope they can release similar no-code tools for other platforms.
