Not a new device — photo from Amazon.

There are more rumours this week that Google will launch its own version of the Echo Show — a plugged in device that runs Google Assistant and can show results. Maybe it’ll be called the Pixel Home? However, this type of device is already possible today with any latest Android tablet. Adding a far field microphone (or slightly more decent mic array) would allow for a similar interaction to the Show.

Perhaps this is device will add a mic array to the Chromecast (in which case, it wouldn’t be touch screen)?

The issue is that, unlike with the Echo Show, there already is an always-on device that has a touch screen on it and is always on for voice — that’s any latest Android device. Perhaps this will be a dressed down version of Android with a custom ROM that doesn’t allow standard apps to run?

We’ll know soon enough.
