Deepfakes are often associated with malicious intents — political rivals create incendiary fake footage of the opposing politician doing something bad, ex-lovers create embarrassing clips, angry employees create harmful content to denigrate the company they’re working at.

However, Deepfakes might need a new name. Alternate actors? AI generated characters?

With generative AI, both the creation of new images as well as the even more uncanny ability to superimpose faces.
