Fiber and 5G
Waze is one of the apps that I disable on WiFi. It is only allowed to work on the cell network. Why? The car is usually close enough to the house that it picks up WiFi and I have to wait for the device to give up on my home’s WiFi before the cell network kicks in.
I had the same issue with the Air Canada app (when I used to fly often). My device would connect to the aircraft’s onboard WiFi and the app wouldn’t work because I hadn’t paid for Internet use. It’s a mild annoyance and takes some knowledge of Android settings to change.
Why does this have to be the case?
If there are two potential Internet connections, if one stops responding, why not default to the other connection before the device deems it no longer functional? Better yet, why not use the two in tandem?
There are third party apps, like Speedify, that do this but this seems like it should be default. Between having 5G connectivity and WiFi connected to a fiber line, that would seem to bring the best of both worlds.
