Explicit Filter
While spending a bit of time in the Alexa App yesterday, I found that Amazon had added an Explicit Filter to the Music settings. This is great, especially given some unfortunate past interactions with the Echo.
I enabled it right away but found that somethings weren’t working.
“Alexa, play American Boy”
It played the song. With curse words.
Also, it didn’t warn me that this was a song with explicit content. So what happened?
It seems the Alexa app didn’t save and apply the settings. When I went back to the app, I saw that the setting wasn’t applied.
A new pet peeve of mine is the Alexa app. It lacks responsiveness to touch inputs, requiring a several second wait before seeing the results, like clicking on the ≡ in the settings. Maybe this is just a growing pain?
That said, I’m happy that Amazon has this in place now.
