Echo Show 5 Setup

I am very excited to try out the Echo Show 5. It’s a big step up in terms of build quality from the original Echo Show, which was starting to have some burn in issues from the screen.

Indeed, the sound is better, the screen is brighter, the stand feels more substantial. There was some thought put into this.

One thing that is a bit lacklustre is the setup process. It required me to key in my Amazon account user ID and password, my WiFi credentials, and enter manually information. This is totally a 2013 experience. By now, the setup should be magical. I should plug it in, and with Amazon’s knowledge of previous setups, other Echos in the vicinity, and WiFi networks saved to Amazon, it should just work.

Maybe the existence of a VUI made some of the engineers lean on this. I hope setup-free experience will exist soon.
