Echo Loopiness

aka Talk To the Finger

The Echo Loop is interesting, as in makes you think about the motives behind and the thought process that brought it to market. When we were contemplating different ideas around the Ubi, the idea of a ring was brought up for controlling the the home environment. There are issues with rings:

  • Other people can see them
  • You can feel a ring on you throughout the day
  • It can interfere with certain tasks (cleaning dishes, typing, weightlifting)
  • It’s a strange to interact with a ring by voice

I like that Amazon takes risk on hardware. After all, the Echo wouldn’t exist without this (and maybe the Ubi would reign… sigh). The Loop extends this trend. A few things that could help its adoption would be health tracking or the ability control TV. It’s likely that it will find some weird niche applications.
