Echo Frames remind me of when Google Glass came out. Yes, there was just a completely unrealistic idea of the heads up display, but more so, it felt hopeful that you could walk around and be completely free of looking at your “immasculating” (Sergey Brin’s words) phone.

However, the idea that an assistant can be there completely hands free and at a moments notice, no matter where you are is appealing. Truthfully, I wish there was a non-AR version of Google Glass. Google Assistant seems to be a much better fit at day to day interactions that aren’t in the home than Alexa.

One drawback is that none of these devices take you away from your phone. You still need to have your phone within Bluetooth range to access the features.

When will we get a device that is truly phone independent?
