Echo Connect?
Amazon is not afraid to pursue the weird. The upside is a breakaway success like the Echo. The downside is the Fire Phone. However, the payoff for the success in either arena far outweighs the price of failure.
The Echo Look seems like one of those weird bets that didn’t take off. I might be one of the very few to actually own one:
With only 135 customer reviews, it’s hard to even find the device on Amazon. It seems like Amazon is going to let is slowly wilt away amongst the flood of other devices.
But what’s really strange is the Connect. It was announced around a year ago and perhaps was a play to have Alexa Calling take over the home phone. While it’s probably more popular than the Look, it’s nothing in terms of the Echo’s popularity.
I could imagine some niche cases where the Connect would be used to help the elderly with handsfree calling, similar to the Activocal device:
Amazon has the ability to take over home phone and edge out Google / Apple / Samsung when people are in their homes. However, it might take another generation or two of products to get there.
