Eating Spaghetti
AI for the masses is here.
Sora and Imagen whet the public’s appetite, but it’s smaller up — and-comers that are the first to market and Lumalabs has released something fantastic. Sure, we get all the weirdness of the first image generators but this is today and soon enough, it will be indistinguishable from reality.
Last year, Will Smith Eating Spaghetti and The Rock Eating Rocks were two of the crazier videos to be released that helped assuage filmmakers’ concerns that AI would take over their jobs. I decided to try my own test of the newest public version of video generation by asking it to create a video of Will Smith eating spaghetti. While the video isn’t Will Smith and it still has creapy characteristics, it’s not really that bad.
What’s amazing is how quickly we can see advances. Here’s a video created from a mural in our home using RunwayML two months ago:

I made one attempt at prompting but if I had more patience, I could easily run 100+ and there would likely be some usable gems. Patiently building these, cultivating them, whispering to the service — these will be the tasks of the next artist.
