About 20 years ago, there was a burgeoning industry for ring tones. You could get popular sounds to play out from you phone when you called. There was even ring music so you could change what people heard when they were calling you.
There might be a new industry shaping up soon for earcons — little noises indicating different actions. You can think of the Intel Inside earcon or “SEGAAA”. Earcons will provide a way for Skill and Action makers to differentiate themselves on the market and make a unique experience.
Implementation of an earcon is very simple (SSML tags) and can create an awesome user experience. Let’s hope this will be the new ring tone of the voice age.
