Ditching the Dash

I found out by reading Stacey on IoT that Amazon is ditching the Amazon Dash Button. What’s not being ditched? The Dash Replenishment service behind it.

Maybe the reasoning behind this button is this: if you have to push a button to re-order, it’s already too late. While smart packaging or buttons can tell you exactly when an item is low or depleted, algorithms are near-infinitely cheaper. If you order enough from Amazon to order via a Dash Button, Amazon probably already knows when you’re running low and could offer up an alert to buy through its Chrome plug-in, an Alexa notification, or an email.

So long, Dash. You taught Amazon a lot. Just like a Skinner box.
