Digitization, Deception, Disruption, Demonetization, Dematerialization, and Democratization

These factors are going to influence the ability for us, individually, to exponentially increase our output. The war is coming between the services that are going to offer better and more rewarding AI versus what we’ll be able to get for free or for a small fee.
When most companies offer us their services for “free”, it’s because we are the product. Google, Facebook, and Apple offer us free services because they monetize through targeted ads and attention. We seed control of our attention and influence as a result.
However, truly open AI platforms are coming and they will compete with the closed offerings from the big players. Project Common Voice and GPT-J offer datasets for training and get us closer to democratized AI.
We need more of these types of tools. For one, they will lead to more people experimenting and new applications. The second is that some entrepreneurs will create services, likely for a small fee, that compete with the big players but allow us to choose how we’re influenced. This means more diversity in thought and might even push the big players to do better with their own services.
