Just got back from a quick trip in to the AVIOS Conversational Interactions conference in San Jose. The conference brings together speech experts who have been talking about voice and believing in its impact for decades before it was cool. There were professionals from Amazon, Google, IBM, and dozens of other companies working in voice technologies giving talks on a wide range of voice topics.
Some sessions dealt with new methods for machine learning around STT while others looked at noise suppression technologies for voice. While I could only be there for a few sessions, they had an impact.
One thing is clear — the barrier to building voice interaction is being reduced significantly every few months. As a result more developers are going to be flocking to build integrations with their current services. 30,000 Skills is nothing.
