Not to sound nostalgic, but I miss Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Why? It had offline voice typing that worked reliably. It seems now, this feature is only sometimes supported but most of the time is not functional, especially if there are any connectivity issues to Google’s servers.
The problem is that if I get this screen enough times, I come to expect it and eventually it breaks my habit of voice typing.
Voice typing was one of those features that we used as part of the initial Ubi planning. The feature seemed to be discontinued around Android 4.4 KitKat and all later versions.
I can imagine Google needing to find a model that would allow it to continue to support offline modes beyond being convenient but it was a fantastic feature. Maybe we’ll see this come back as part of the Google Home implementation when there are connectivity issues?
