Completely Determined
In this case, I’m not referring to the good determined, as in motivated. In this case I’m thinking about determinism as in the opposite of freewill. Maybe stochastic determinism still holds — that things happen but they’re governed by random set of numbers within a given range.
The more I interact with people the more I’m learning towards determinism. It’s not that we don’t have free choice, it’s that the we can be influenced heavily by our environment. I remember making hundreds of cold calls a week and thinking that I could feel how people would react at different parts of the conversation. Was I manipulating them by knowing this?
Maybe this is where we should be focusing our AI efforts — on having monitors in place to alert us when we’re following our engrained paths so that we can break free.
