Combining Voice with High Fidelity

With rumours abounding about larger brands who had announced Alexa integration, it seems that there is still a gap in high end audio with voice interaction. Currently, the only mechanism for voice control and high end output is through an Echo Dot outputting through aux to a good speaker.

However, there are some drawbacks to this:

  • Aux output is not always the best audio quality
  • If there’s any amplifier between the Echo Dot and the speakers, it will affect the ability of the device to do acoustic echo cancellation
  • Being able to move the microphone array relative to the speaker also causes AEC issues

One thing we’ll probably see in the year ahead is amazing quality speakers that include voice. This will test the limits of AEC but we’re probably going to see some freakily powerful implementations.
