Cleaning Is Everything

Many years ago, I was involved in a startup that consolidated information on government programs into one place. The system would check the website for updates every few hours and flag ones that needed to be changed in the system. Nothing ruins your data like irrelevant information or items that are outdated.

An example are Craiglist and Facebook Marketplace ads. If old posts are kept up, how can someone trust to check it out. The dead ads clog up the system.

In our bodies, there’s a system to get rid of senescent cells: autophagy. It’s basically our immune system eating up cells that have stopped functioning.

Any service that offers an information advantage needs to implement a parallel system. Otherwise, it’s hard for users to trust that what they’re seeing is clean.
