Canada’s Black Friday used to be Boxing Day. Now, Black Friday is Canada’s Black Friday. There are also sales on Boxing Day, but not hyped as much, and Prime Day follows the same mid July timeframe.

Now, it’s Boxing Week, rather than Boxing Day. It’s no longer the “oh shoot, we overestimated the popularity and overstocked on speakers, so we better mark them down” type of sale. It’s a deliberate, mild sale on things you probably don’t need or want.

I sound pessimistic but we need a different approach. There needs to be more to our purchasing than waiting for the cheapest price around a specific date. Applying some intelligence and tailoring will hopefully make things more exciting for everyone.
