Bold vs Beautiful
ChatGPT v4 now offers italicized and bolded text. Google Bard? Images.
While in his book, Big Little Things, Tom Peters points out how it’s 1000s of little things that can turn a good company to a great company, the same applies to products and services. It can be the fine details that end up delighting or improving the lives of people who consume them.
I appreciate that GPT v4 offers up this annotation as it makes reading who’s voice is being used or what edits have been applied. The output is much more readable. For Bard, my reaction was “that’s nice” but it didn’t wow me — this is more in the realm of a Google search. However, if image generation was added, it would be a significant gain in function of the service.
Bard’s addition of images is a throwback to my first experience with Wolfram Alpha. I remember asking it “What planes are overhead” and getting a sketch of this. Ultimately, I wanted to create an augmented reality app that acted like a heads up display for plane spotters.
The incremental improvements to these LLM services will expand their impact and allow for many more applications.
