Over a year ago, this great spoof of 2001 Space Odyssey and Alexa was released:
I still chuckle when I watch it. It reminds me of a few things:
- How frustrating incorrect transcription and intent recognition can be.
- How we’ve come a long way since Alexa was first released in the interaction and accuracy.
- Hal is a horrible wake word or term for phrase spotting. Everything with an “Al” will get triggered. That said, HAL may work through voice activity detection and just transcribe all speech, responding when there’s detection of “HAL” as an entity.
On a similar not, CTRL SHIFT FACE released a video of Elon Musk in 2021:
I’m not as impressed with this video as the others, but it’s a worthy attempt. I can see the technical difficulty of the facial recognition with all of the projections but where the face meets the chin, you get some weird artifacts and the eye and lip movement seem off. I’m excited to see what this looks like in a year!
