Biohacking and Quantified Self
More than a decade ago, I started learning about the biohacking and the Quantified Self movements. It’s been awhile since I revisited the movement but the opportunities for recording analytics on own’s self has exploded. Rings, chest bands, blood test strips, gut microbiome tests, DNA tests, etc. are all available for the regular consumer.
More, the ability to process this data has increased as well. Now, you can actually have those DNA results analyzed by third party providers to look for issues. New analyses can be done on data you’ve collected in the past.
On top of these two advancements, there are also interventions that can be implemented based on the findings. You can get bespoke training and diet recommendations, supplements, and even probiotics based just on you.
This customization is set to increase much more by the end of the decade. Insurance providers might end up offering these devices and tests for free as a means to dramatically reduce the downstream costs of healthcare. The result will be a Quantified Everyone movement.
